Southern California in the winter…what more needs to be said! The elaborate floats are unbelievable. It is one thing to see them on TV but to see and smell these glorious creations of many hours and materials in person is amazing. We have very nice reserved grandstand seating along the parade route. When making your plans you will want to compare all the attractions that are included!

Day 1: We make our way across the plains of Western Kansas and Oklahoma and into New Mexico for our first night out in Albuquerque.

Day 2: Continuing west today, we get acquainted with our fellow travelers.  By late evening we arrive in Needles, CA for our overnight stay.

Day 3: We will reach the Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles by lunchtime. This afternoon we will have an interesting L.A. City Tour with a local step-on-guide. We will see areas such as Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills. We will visit the places we read about and see on the news. Tonight we will be in Anaheim to check into the hotel which will be home for 4 nights.

Day 4:  This morning we will get a close up of what goes on behind the scenes at the float preparation. We will be awe-struck at how much detail and engineering goes into these elaborate floats. After lunch we will drive to the Griffith Observatory for a wonderful view of the city and the “Hollywood” sign. Tonight we will celebrate with a New Years Eve included dinner.

Day 5: An EARLY morning sees us on our way to Pasadena and our reserved grandstand seats for the Rose Bowl Parade. We’ll enjoy first-hand the extravaganza of the floats, smell thousand of roses and see other colorful items that go into making these floats. We will share an included picnic lunch after the parade. Then it’s back to the hotel for a free evening on your own. If you prefer, you can go to Disneyland on your own as our hotel has a shuttle.

Day 6: What a day is in store for us today, as we head out by boat to Catalina Island. Following the hour boat ride to the island, we will learn about the history of the island and the rich and famous that visit there on our Avalon Scenic tour. There will then be free time to explore the shops, visit with the locals, and eat lunch on your own. Tonight will be our last night at the Anaheim hotel.

Day 7:  After our busy days in the L.A. area, we will head south along the coastline to San Diego. Our first stop is SeaWorld. Sit back and relax as you enjoy the marine life as they perform for you. Late afternoon, we will make our way to the harbor for a narrated Harbor Excursion through Flagship Cruises. Tonight we will stay in San Diego.

Day 8:  Today we will travel across one of the world's most distinctive bridges to Coronado Island. Developed in 1888 as a beach resort town, the island is blessed with one of the finest beaches in the world and bathed in endless sunshine. We will tour the famous Hotel Del Coronado as well. This afternoon we will visit one of the most famous zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo. We return to our hotel in San Diego for the night.

Day 9: Today we say good-bye to California and fly back home.
